My name is Miroslava Dermendjieva and I fell in love with photography back in 2009. The turning point was when I stumbled upon an extraordinary photo that—for the first time—changed my life. That work of art inspired me to reach out for my camera and learn more about the art called photography, hence becoming and inseparable part of it.
Photography is more than a profession or a hobby for me. Photography is the only art that can communicate a different meaning and shape a different reality from my world. It is a means of recreating my universe, my philosophy and my understanding of life. That is why I define myself as a visual artist working in the sphere of photography without any importance whatsoever as to what the subjects of my photos are. Whether I am fascinated with the beauty of nature and I want to capture its mystery and vividness; or whether I am intent on examining every inch of the person before me—to capture an image of their soul and of the unique moment of their life spent with me for a thousand of the second; or whether I am grasped by a “simple” object—however, even a “simple” object is not simple for me, since I want to study it, to determine its most characteristic angle, to find out its most typical qualities—I am a photographer. That is the most important fact I have to say about myself. I love to thoroughly finish my work up until the moment it speaks out that it is perfect.
I believe that the art of photography changes anyone who has ever touched it: it attracts them, enchants them and leaves a trait in their soul. This is a process I, personally, am addicted to the same way I am addicted to life; because photography is a symbiosis between real life and that personal touch we add from ourselves which clearly and categorically distinguishes us from everyone else.
